Why choose oak over softwood for exterior battens?
Oak hardwood offers superior strength, durability, and natural beauty compared to treated softwood battens. Its grain patterns, stability, and resistance to insect attack and fungal infestations make it ideal for long-lasting exterior cladding solutions.
What are framing oak closure battens used for?
Framing oak closure battens are used to finish and side trim the edges of oak frames, such as windows, doors, or exterior cladding. They hide installation fixtures, provide structural support, and create a durable, aesthetically pleasing finish. They are ideal for barn conversions, renovation projects, commercial buildings, and other applications where a high-quality, exterior-grade oak finish is required.
Is the oak suitable for exterior use in the UK?
Absolutely. Our UK-manufactured green oak battens are a natural product, designed to cope with environmental factors such as rain, sun, and temperature fluctuations when installed correctly, providing durability for many years. To further extend their lifespan, the battens can be treated with a high-quality oak oil or suitable preservative, helping to preserve their grain structure, natural beauty, and resistance to fungal or insect attack.
What are corner stop ends?
Corner stop ends are specially designed oak components used to finish and protect the corners of cladding or battens. They provide a clean, professional appearance while concealing installation fixings and preventing water ingress at external corners.
Are the oak battens square edge or tongue and groove?
Our exterior oak hardwood battens, closures and stop ends are supplied with square edges, not tongue and groove. The square edge profile provides a clean, simple finish.
