European oak is the most common choice. It’s strong, affordable, and easy to work with. Oak should be kiln-dried to 8–12% moisture content, making it stable for indoor use, reducing shrinking, swelling and warping.
Use a tape measure or ruler. Measure from the back of the reveal (closest to the window glass) straight to where you want the front of the board to finish. If you want a small overhang in front of the wall or frame, add at least 10–20 mm (or as desired) to the measurement.
Kiln-dried oak is stable and can handle normal indoor humidity. However, it should only be installed in areas like bathrooms, kitchens or laundry rooms if properly treated or sealed. It's important to avoid constant water contact.
Our boards are always single solid oak boards, never laminated or stave-jointed.
We recommend re‑oiling, varnishing or waxing periodically to keep board looking great. Depending on its location and exposure this should be every year or two. Alway wipe up any liquids to prevent staining or moisture ingress using a soft cloth; avoid harsh detergents or abrasive scrubbing. Avoid putting hot pans, metal plant pots directly on oak board without protective pads. For kitchens/bathrooms, ensure ventilation is good, and use a high quality protective finish to guard against splashes or condensation.
