  • Easy to finish – Unfinished oak linings can be stained, oiled, or lacquered to match surrounding joinery, creating a cohesive look.

Internal Oak Door Lining Kit FAQs

Can I fit door linings myself?

Can I fit door linings myself?

Yes, you can fit a solid oak door lining kit yourself if you’re confident with basic DIY and carpentry tools. The most important thing is that the wall opening is square, plumb, and level — otherwise the door won’t hang or close properly.

You’ll need:
- A spirit level or laser level
- A saw (for trimming pieces if needed)
- Screws and wall fixings
- Wooden shims or packers
- A drill and screwdriver

Are door linings for internal or external use?

Are door linings for internal or external use?

Solid oak door lining kits are normally designed for internal (indoor) doors. They’re ideal for rooms inside your home — like bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas — where the wood is kept in a stable, dry environment. If you want to use oak around an exterior door, make sure it’s suitable grade and fully sealed with an exterior-grade finish (like a UV-resistant oil or varnish)

Can oak linings be used in bathrooms or humid areas?

Can oak linings be used in bathrooms or humid areas?

Yes, if properly sealed with oil or varnish, but prolonged exposure to high humidity can cause swelling. Always ensure good ventilation in bathrooms and regularly maintain the timbers with sealant.

What is a door stop?

What is a door stop?

A door stop (or “door stop strip”) is a thin piece of wood fixed to the door frame or lining. It creates the edge that the door closes against, stopping it from swinging through the opening. It also helps seal the gap between door and frame (for sound or draught protection). Our kits contain solid oak lengths ready to cut to length and fit.

How do I measure for the correct door lining width?

How do I measure for the correct door lining width?

- Measure the finished wall thickness — this includes plaster, drywall, or any wall covering.
- Measure at several points (top, middle, bottom) because walls may not be perfectly straight.
- If the wall is uneven, pick a slightly thinner lining and use shims to adjust.
- If you want a flush lining, measure carefully and you may need to trim your lining.

Can I cut the lining to fit uneven openings?

Can I cut the lining to fit uneven openings?

Yes, you can trim side jambs or the head piece slightly. Oak is easy to cut with a fine-tooth saw. Always measure carefully, cut slowly and check its square before finishing.

When should I install oak door liners?

When should I install oak door liners?

Install after plastering and wall finishes are complete and fully dry. This prevents movement or misalignment caused by drying walls.
